Bob Mullen

Bob Mullen also known as the catholic photographer, capturing events, art and architecture. Bob Mullen doesn’t just snap his photos and show them off, he also documents the image and describes where he is and a brief history about the churches. This idea inspires me as he’s giving extra information on his images and not just simply posting up pictures to be pleasing to the eye. It was a challenge to gather intel on my artist, the only information I could find is what photography he specialises in. I found this artist was most value and similar to my work as our camera angles and intentions are very much alike. I admire how he doesn’t just capture the buildings in itself but also the people which is just as important for my project. My favourite element about these images is how silent they portray, even with the images with people they are either praying or just still like statues. Another good example of this is the picture below of the piano, it illuminates these rainbow colours from the light flashing through the windows, I know this by the windows reflecting ontop of the piano. The piano has nobody playing on it which creates a silent tone to the image, which just lets you gaze upon the key factor which is the reflection on the piano. This image to me seems angelic but energetic with the colours creating a playful tone and the piano usually portrays a sophisticated and classical effect. I will be taking inspiration from Bob Mullen but what key factors he engages in, not just the building as a whole but investigate into the art and people inside. From a photography matter I admire his camera angels, turning the camera to an angel to create a bit fun-house affect instead of just straight on. Also how he blurs out background to create focus on a fixed subject. The colour pallet within Bobs work determines each colour of the church which I will look into, he creates a moodboard which can create a good juxtapositions.
